If you hold a blog contest, don’t be an asshole about it and not give out the promised prize. I experienced this first hand a while back when I “won” a 2GB USB Drive in a contest from Darin.cc. He said I won and that I need to contact him giving him my address.
Shortly thereafter I contacted him with my address but no reply, no USB drive. This was over a month ago, and after 3 attempts to contact him. What a jerk.
If you hold a blog contest to get link-backs that’s fine. But don’t be a dick about it and back out on the prize once someone wins.

Wow I didn’t realize I was being an asshole … however if you follow my blog … you would see that I work for a Large Company and I have been on the road quite alot in the past 3 weeks. I actually just got back home on the 3rd of July … I even had to buy my iPhone online instead of at a store!
However I got your email’s and have actually packed the USB drive up to ship it out to you.
You should receive it in a few days.

Darin, the contest was over on 5/30 and I didn’t hear a word from you until just now when your reputation was at stake.
What am I supposed to believe? I apologize if I was too quick to jump to conclusions, but I assure you anybody would assume the same, given the situation. Especially after the extended time period with no contact, and plenty of posts on your blog, at least showing you’re still around.

An unfortunate situation, but I agree. Any reasonable person would have begun by now to assume the worst. Darin Carter should understand that and try to be available or leave an email auto-away reply when sponsoring a contest that is coming to conclusion.

As an update, I still have not received this drive. I see that Darin is doing the same thing with John Cow, Ms Danielle, and other bloggers as well. What a douchebag.
Egon, that really sucks that Darin hasn’t come forward with the goods for any of the winners. Sure, he comes out of the woodwork and throws down the “it’s free” card, but he shouldn’t have held a contest in which he had no intention of honoring.
Did you ever get your prize? I read over at contestbeat.com that he didn’t get his iPhone so I was curious if you actually received yours?
