Egonitron.com is not my primary website. It never has been, and it never will be. Contrary to my tagline (“Helping Geeks Make Money Online”,) this is not just another Make Money Online blog, it’s not an affiliate marketing blog, or anything of the sort. Egonitron.com is my personal blog on which I write about whatever the hell I feel like writing about at the time. That’s the very reason I don’t update as often as I should, and it’s the reason I don’t do any marketing for the blog. I’ve never intended on making any money from this blog (although I have,) and I never intended on getting this blog to be popular (which it really hasn’t.)

While I do give the occasional tip on blogging and marketing and SEO, etc, it’s only because I feel like sharing some information on the subject. Those subjects interest me, so I write about them.

Let me give a little bit of background. While many newer bloggers just name their blog after their own first and last name (there’s nothing wrong with that,) the term “Egonitron” actually came from a nickname back in high school. When I met Danielle and Gary at BlogWorld Expo outside smoking, I believe it was Gary who made a comment expecting me to look like Egon from the Ghostbusters cartoon. If fact, that’s where the name came from; I used to look identical to Egon from the cartoon. I digress…

I like to dabble in all sorts of online ventures, and test out everything. While my primary business is blogging, I play around with PPC, affiliate marketing, domaining, SEO, web development, and all sorts of other stuff. What I really need to do is focus on one or two things and become very good at that before I try other stuff, but it’s really fun For my day job, I actually work in IT for a very large company, but that gets monotonous very quickly.

Again, Egonitron.com is my personal blog in which I do give the occasional tip, list, or other article about things I’ve learned along the blogging way, as well as business stuff, marketing, IT stuff, SEO, or any other cool stuff I feel like writing about. I hope you’ve found some interesting things along the way, and I hope you continue to return to read more. I’ll probably be changing some things soon. Nothing major, but I’ll most likely play around with changing some things on the sidebar, etc.

Not only that, but list items look kinda funny, transparent PNG images don’t look right, there’s extra spacing where there doesn’t need to be…I could go on.

Advertising is what makes content free. If it weren’t for TV commercials, we wouldn’t have TV. Same deal with the internet, in most cases. Most websites now-a-days monetize their site by placing advertisements of some sort on the page, hoping you will click on something of interest. Webmasters deserve to get paid for the enormous amount of time and effort they put into their sites. Blocking these advertisements with plugins or simply ignoring them hurts the website owner. If everybody used these, most websites would be no more! That, or all would be on a paid-subscription basis, and who wants that?

I use Adblock for Firefox myself. Am I a hypocrite? hardly…

I don’t believe in using bright flashing banner ads, interstitials (the ad before you get to the page you want,) or deceptive ads. I don’t put them on my websites, and I don’t believe they should exist. They significantly detract from the user experience. Therefore I use Adblock to block those.

I don’t block unobtrusive advertisements like AdSense, static banners, text ads, etc. Many times I will even find myself interested in an advertisement and click on it. The webmaster deserves it, and it provides a value to me as long as it’s relevant.

I don’t understand why people are so insistent about blocking ads when it that very thing that allows them to enjoy the internet as they have been, and watching free programming on TV.

Please, stop.

Agreeing on a place is even more difficult. I want to move to San Francisco, CA, and she wants a place in Tampa, FL. Me being in IT and her being in Marine Biology, we had to find a happy medium. Upon much deliberation, we decided on North Carolina. It’s a good place for both of us, so I’ve been looking into places to buy down there.

Anyway, being as cheap frugal as I am, I’ve already checked all the foreclosures in the area and have made a few notes. While Raleigh is likely our best bet in terms of location, I’ve been looking at Asheville real estate as well, if we decide to spoil ourselves on a mountain home. As nice as it would be, I believe a mountain home may be a bit too “out there” for us at this point. We need to be where the action is.

I’ve been looking a little bit into Charlotte real estate as well, but despite the slightly reduced prices, I still think Raleigh has more of what we’re looking for in a new home.

Either way, when we move out there we want to rent at first, until we find a home that we want to buy. I can’t stand paying rent anymore, it’s just like throwing away money in my opinion. So the sooner we move, the better. On top of that I would actually like to get into real estate investing (flipping houses, renting out) so I hope North Carolina is a good place to get into that. That’s the one good thing I can say about Iowa; the cost of living is cheap. Of course, there’s a reason for that. It sucks to live here!

I went to the first showing (8 PM on July 2nd,) and considered going to see it again at the 11 PM viewing. It was nothing short of amazing. In fact it’s the first movie I’ve ever been to where throughout the movie, the crowd started cheering on multiple occasions. Like when we first saw Optimus Prime, that was sweet.

So I guess when the DVD comes out I’m going to have to get a new surround sound system; my old surround stopped working, and there’s no way I’m listening to this movie on puny TV speakers.

Update: And it’s kicking ass at the box office
